The North Carolina Tar Heels defeated SC Upstate, 89-47 to move to 9-1 on the season. Deja Kelly led the Tar Heels in scoring with 20 points on 8-11 shooting in the win. Eva Hodgson scored 16 and Paulina Paris scored 15 for the Tar Heells. Alyssa Ustby fill the stat sheet with 9 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals for UNC.

North Carolina travels to New York this weekend to take on Ohio State in the CBS Sports Classic inside Madison Square Garden. The Heels will be looking for their first Quad 1 victory of the season and should a sizeable height advantage over the Buckeye’s on the interior.

UNC has played back-to-back strong games against lesser competition (Georgia Tech and The Citadel) and will now look to use what they’ve recently built to validate being the No. 9 team in the nation in offensive efficiency at KenPom. The question now – can the defense catch up to where the offense is?

North Carolina was dominant against The Citadel, earning its second victory in a row at home 100-67. Caleb Love had a strong night for the Heels, pouring in 17 points while shooting 4-6 from beyond the arc; he’d also add 6 assists. Armando Bacot’s 14 points went with 11 rebounds, breaking the tie with Billy Cunningham for most games in Carolina history with double figures in rebounds. Pete Nance and Tyler Nickel each had 16 points in the victory.
