Jackson State vs. North Carolina: The Tar Heels looked to be in midseason form already as they won their season opener over Jackson State, 91-59. UNC was red hot shooting the ball at times and finished the game shooting 57.8% from the floor. Allyssa Ustby stuffed the box score with 19 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, three blocks, and two steals. Kennedy Todd-Williams was one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing the game with 20 points and nine rebounds. Eva Hodgson added 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists.

Virginia’s 2022-23 campaign got started with a home win over NC Central, 73-61. The Cavaliers were +10 on the backboards and shot 44% from 3-point land. Armaan Franklin had a strong night, picking up 21 points and 4 rebounds. Reece Beekman and Kadin Shedrick had 10 points each in the win.

North Carolina Basketball held on for a gritty win to kick off the college basketball season. Armando Bacot, RJ Davis, and Caleb Love led the way offensively, while UNC won courtesy of their defense, including the team’s best individual player Leaky Black and freshman guard Seth Trimble.

Some things played out as expected, including team free throw shooting and solid defense, while some things were a surprise, such as being outrebounded or a lack of assists. Host Isaac Schade and Pac Kilby ask the question of how concerned we should be about certain aspects on a 1-10 scale.

UNC Wilmington at North Carolina: The No. 1 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels got the 2022-23 season started with a 69-56 win over UNC Wilmington. Caleb Love and RJ Davis each scored 17 points in the win while Armando Bacot finished the game with 16 points and 9 rebounds. The Tar Heels held the Seahawks to 29% shooting from the floor and they outscored UNCW 34-18 in the paint in the win.

North Carolina Basketball began their quest to return to the Final Four on Monday Night. Returning starters Armando Bacot, RJ Davis, Leaky Black, and Caleb Love are ready to go along with transfer Pete Nance. Hubert Davis’ 2nd Tar Heel team quite frankly struggled offensively, but found ways to make it happen on the defensive end, holding UNCW under 30% shooting for the game.

Freshman Seth Trimble and Sophomore D’Marco Dunn both played pivotal bench minutes the game. Carolina did have several trouble spots: they were outrebounded, had just four assists, four fast break points, and only shot 2-10 from three.
