The Preseason Basketball AP Top 25 is about a month away from being released, and the North Carolina Tar Heels are the majority favorite to be the No. 1 team to kick off the 2022-23 college basketball season. Lance takes a look at UNC, Houston, and Gonzaga and explains why the Kentucky Wildcats should be the No. 1 team in the polls over all of them.

All of these programs are similar in talent, coaching, and experience, but the Wildcats overall have just a little more to offer.

The 2022-23 UNC Basketball team has huge expectations put on it in Hubert Davis’ 2nd year at the helm of the Tar Heels. Returning the core of the national runners-up tends to do that to a team. Armando Bacot, Leaky Black, RJ Davis, and Caleb Love will bear the weight of that expectation, but transfer Pete Nance will take some of the load as will freshmen Jalen Washington and Seth Trimble and returners Puff Johnson and Dontrez Styles.

Despite the already lofty expectations, host Isaac Schade and Coach Pac Kilby decided to make 5 bold predictions each for the Tar Heels. Bold predictions are more likely to not happen than to happen, but they aren’t impossible!

North Carolina basketball target Boogie Fland (class of 2024) will take an official visit to Chapel Hill the weekend of September 30 to attend Live Action with Hubert Davis (UNC’s new name for Late Night). Class of 2023 target Zayden High will also be in attendance.

Sports Illustrated’s Director of Basketball Recruiting, Jason Jordan, says that Fland is a high-level guard who has all the tools to be an elite guard, but is more concerned with winning than his own numbers. He’s extremely quick and would fit perfectly into the Tar Heels’ system.
