Will Hubert Davis utilize more depth for UNC in 2022-23? | Women's Basketball ACC Schedule Breakdown

The 2021-22 Tar Heels relied heavily on the #IronFive down the stretch of the season, and rode that wave all the way to the National Championship game. Hubert Davis’ starting five of RJ Davis, Caleb Love, Leaky Black, Brady Manek, and Armando Bacot played every minute of the 2nd half at Cameron Indoor Stadium to finish off the regular season.

Will Coach Davis continue to utilize a shallow bench in 2022-23 or will he dip further into his reserves and allow players like Puff Johnson, Dontrez Styles, Seth Trimble, and Jalen Washington to provide meaningful backup minutes, allowing the starters to be fresher longer?

UNC's 2022-23 ACC Schedule Release! | W-L Predictions | Jalen Washington health update

The ACC released the 2022-23 conference basketball schedules earlier this week, so we finally know the full schedule for this season’s Tar Heels, who are trying to make their way back to the National Championship game led by returners Caleb Love, RJ Davis, Leaky Black, and Armando Bacot.

The 20-game ACC slate kicks off in early December with back-to-back games at Virginia Tech and hosting Georgia Tech, before the main chunk of the ACC schedule will commence on New Year’s weekend with a trip to Pittsburgh.

UNC’s likely hardest slate is the five-game closing stretch: at NC State, at Notre Dame, vs. Virginia, at FSU, vs. Duke.

UNC Basketball Recruiting: Drake Powell Breakdown – Strengths / Weaknesses, UNC & NBA Player Comps

Drake Powell committed to North Carolina last Thursday, September 8. The 6’5, 170-pound high school junior is the first player to commit to UNC in the class of 2024. He’s also the first-ever in-state commit for Hubert Davis.

While Powell is not an elite-level talent, he currently projects to be a solid, multi-year rotation player for the Tar Heels. His calling card is defense, but has the make-up of someone whose shot should develop well over time.

Powell also needs to add weight to his frame, but will have the opportunity to do that over his final two years of high school and will obviously benefit from the UNC strength program.

Drake Powell commits to UNC | Where do the Tar Heels turn after missing out on TJ Power?

Drake Powell committed to Hubert Davis and North Carolina last Thursday afternoon. Powell becomes the first commit in the class of 2024 and came just 24 hours after the Tar Heels lost out on 2023’s TJ Power, who committed to the Duke Blue Devils.

Powell is an in-state player whose parents both went to North Carolina. He’s currently not an elite level prospect, but certainly has time and opportunity to rise in the rankings. Given that he’s more of a rotation player at this point, how will the 2024 class continue to develop around him? Carolina has many offers out to high-level players.
