Hubert Davis and North Carolina secured their first commitment in the class of 2024 on Thursday when in-state strong forward Drake Powell announced his decision to come to Chapel Hill for college.
Powell is a 6-5, 170 junior who plays for Northwood High School in Pittsboro, NC. He’s currently ranked 58th nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite but is a prime candidate to jump up the rankings as things continue to unfold.
The Tar Heels currently just have one commitment (Simeon Wilcher) in the class of 2023 and only one other outstanding offer (Zayden High), but have eight offers out in the class of 2024, plus Howell’s commitment.

Reblogged 2 years ago from www.youtube.comDon’t tell Hubert Davis it’s only the first day of September.
The Carolina head coach was in midseason form this week as his Tar Heels went through a couple of the NCAA-allowed preseason practices. Official practice for the 2022-23 season will begin in late September.
With no opponent to prepare for, this week’s two sessions were focused on two aspects of the game: individual skills and refining some of the offensive and defensive principles that form the core of Davis’ system.
That doesn’t mean, however, that they were easy workouts.
North Carolina Basketball now has its own Drake, as in-state Drake Powell committed to Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels. This episode of the Coast to Coast Podcast breaks down Powell’s commitment as well as other news items from the world of UNC hoops and recruiting.

UNC recently offered class of 2024 basketball player Trentyn Flowers (SF, who lists himself as a combo guard). Flowers is the ninth player to receive an offer from the Tar Heels in the class.
Flowers has played at multiple high schools recently including Huntington Prep, Sierra Canyon, and will this year suit up for Combine Academy in the Charlotte area. This young man has a never-ending line of suitors and will have his choice of any school he desires. Sports Illustrated’s Jason Jordan tells host Isaac Schade that Flowers will plan to cut his list down at some point in October, and that he feels confident UNC will be on that list.

The North Carolina men’s basketball program has a rich history that schools all over the country can only dream of. It’s difficult to sift through the very best of the Tar Heels teams through the decades. Despite that difficulty, Coach Pac Kilby and Isaac Schade are going to attempt to do that very thing: provide you with a list of what they each believe are the top 10 teams in UNC history.
After sharing their lists Isaac and Pac discuss what they got right and what they got wrong and then determine if and where each one thinks the 2022-23 Tar Heels team will fit historically.
