A UNC Student’s Confederate Grave (Silent Sam)

After hearing of the tragic, barbaric, and illegal toppling of the “Silent Sam” monument at UNC Chapel Hill, I went to the local cemetery to tell the story of Harry Miller, a UNC student and Confederate soldier who was killed in battle in 1864. Silent Sam was erected in 1913 to commemorate Harry and other UNC students who lost their lives in the American Civil War.
