Last night, the University of North Carolina played the school once known as Trinity College, 8 miles down the road, for the 255th time, in a rivalry that dates back to their first game, in January of 1920. No one realized until later, that President Wilson was so incapacitated by his stroke, that First Lady Edith Galt Wilson was making most of the decisions, and helping Wilson sign his name. Marshall, the first vice president to serve two full terms since the Monroe Administration, was frozen out of the process. We know who is not making decisions at 1600 Pennsylvania in 2021. The bottom line is that Alex O'Connell will play in the NCAA tournament, and Duke will not. In 2019, who would have predicted that about 2020-2021?
I like to see the rivalry competitive. That said, you wonder where Duke is going from here. Having to develop a new team every single year to have chemistry and success is an impossible task for even the greatest of coaches. That task becomes even more difficult when your prized Mickey Dβs All Americans underperform significantly or outright leave your program. Itβs been a tough year for Duke. Iβd imagine that coach K is probably looking to put it past him as soon as possible.
Eyes don't lie. They have no perimeter game, they lack bulk and size down in the post, and zero bench. One silver lining: Williams is developing nicely. The recruiting strategy has to change. Losing multiple one and done players at the same time hurts the program.
You canβt teach heart and hustle. These dudes just do not play hard and have no sense of what competing is. K can say all he wants about him not preparing them but like come on these dudes gotta get a grip and play like it means something.
This was a team that was inconsistent and did not execute on fundamentals.Poorly playing last 3 games. Yes we were in previous two,but we lost winnable games.
