Just an opinion, but the approach of "keeping it in the family" may only work at UNC. I can't imagine another program trying to follow the same model and having anything close to the success that the Tar Heels have experienced. I'm wondering what the situation at Duke will be; Coach K will eventually retire, and who will take over? Would they try the similar formula, in Bobby Hurley, Jon Scheyer, or Jeff Capel?

Love Hubert but this hire doesn’t thrill me or give me hope for the future. Nobody knows if he can coach on this level with crazy amounts of pressure. Seems more of an emotional hire than one that was well thought out. Good luck though.
Keeping it in the family at North Carolina has not worked only once. Hubert has been at North Carolina as an assistant for 9-10 years so he’s earned this. Congratulations Hubert!!!

He had Coaching Experience as their JV Head Coach
He was being groomed by Coach Williams as one of his Assistants on the Varsity Bench
So this is a Logical Choice no big waves in the system

Great hire! Played at UNC, coached, and gained national exposure as a ESPN commentator (demonstrated articulate and this matters) who has a national breadth. Downside. No head coaching experience. Ask J. Howard. Wes Miller. Head has good coaching experience but not outside NC and a bigger program. Wes should take over a big program like Roy did at KU first. Get out and experience the much larger world! He might be great down the road. Hubert was the best choice right now. Will be interesting to see the deal. Pay him well for 2-3 years and see what happens. In the old days, coaches would deserve a full 4 year class contract at first, but this changed with one and done’s. Sucks

As an Alabama fan I cant tell you how happy I am that UNC hires the way Bama football does…not that i dont think that he will do well, just glad we still got our Oats!!!
Hell yeah that's a good hire and he's been under Williams all them years so yeah he he'll be a good coach and he'll be outside for the next 20 years until he retires at age 70 it ain't going to take him long to win a title probably made me taking one two years to win the national title and he's he's going to win quite a few of them probably four or five them he's a good recruiter too so so are we going to get some good players during his turn as head coach way to go tar heels perfect fit for a coach meme we don't get me wrong where it was great and play the greatest coach in the history besides Dean Smith but Davis is going to going to be one of the greats too
UNC will have to embrace the one-and-dones like Duke and UK, or take the Villanova and Gonzaga route by recruiting kids that will stay 2, 3 years. I'm not sure what strategy Roy was following.
Hubert a millionaire now next comes the snoozing and the new house head coaches have to entertain and all that extra stuff. This will be my 3rd Carolina coach.

I like Davis a lot but I have this odd feeling this will be Danny Manning, Patrick Ewing type of hire! I mean I really like Davis but I just have the trust that he will get it done!! Just a feeling

I'm very skeptical when top programs hire former Alum to be head coach, instead of hiring the best candidate possible. Best of luck to coach Davis, he won't have any problems recruiting because it is UNC. But on the flip-side he's got big-time pressure on him win from jump, because again this is UNC.
