The Preseason Basketball AP Top 25 is about a month away from being released, and the North Carolina Tar Heels are the majority favorite to be the No. 1 team to kick off the 2022-23 college basketball season. Lance takes a look at UNC, Houston, and Gonzaga and explains why the Kentucky Wildcats should be the No. 1 team in the polls over all of them.
All of these programs are similar in talent, coaching, and experience, but the Wildcats overall have just a little more to offer.
Kentucky football is UNRANKED in the ESPN FPI (Football Power Index), and Lance gives three reasons why that is ridiculous (even though it is purely a mathematical system – something is very, very off).
Finally, Mark Stoops and the Wildcats take on Northern Illinois tomorrow. We preview the matchup with the Huskies.

I would rather us not be ranked number 1. That's a lot of pressure to live up to and I think going in not ranked number 1 will give them more a chip on their shoulder. Plus we did lose to a 15 seed in last years NCAA in the one of the worst loses in our programs history. It's not like we won the title last year so this team has to go out and earn it which I believe they will. GO CATS!!!!
I agree Kentucky Mens Basketball team should be number one. Kentucky Football is better than 26. I’m not sure if they’re top 10 but they’re better than most top 25 teams.

UNC nor Gomzaga scares me at all and neither does KU. I like our squad and really I don't care what are ranking is because we're gonna be really good and hard to defend. I'd rather not be ranked #1 because we seem to play better when we're not #1. That will matter when for seeding. Go Cats!
