The 2022-23 AP preseason men’s basketball poll was released earlier this week. The North Carolina Tar Heels sit alone atop the poll for the 10th time in program history. This breaks a tie with Duke for the most all-time preseason No. 1 rankings. UNC has made the Final Four in four of the nine previous season where they were ranked preseason No. 1.
Rounding out the AP top 10 is Gonzaga, Houston, Kentucky, Baylor, Kansas, Duke, UCLA, Creighton, and Arkansas.
The ACC preseason honors also came out this week. As expected, Armando Bacot was name preseason Player of the Year. Bacot was joined on the All-ACC first team by Isaiah Wong (Miami), Caleb Love, Terquavion Smith (NC State), and Jeremy Roach (Duke).
On the second team is Jayden Gardner (UVA), Dereck Lively II (Duke), Justyn Mutts (Virginia Tech), PJ Hall (Clemson), and RJ Davis
Lively was also selected as the ACC Preseason Rookie of the Year.

Can the 2022-23 Tar Heels become the first wire-to-wire AP No. 1 in program history?
The idea that Roach is better than Rj is absolutely preposterous but overall they did us well in the preseason stuff. Obviously what matters is the actual season not what’s predicted
Of course it doesn't matter; where were we ranked at the start of last season?
Moreover, after that loss to Pitt who even thought UNC would even make it to the tournament?
With all of that said, UNC is going to win the natty this coming season and I'm going to be as proud of them as I was last season!
It's OK with me if someone thinks Bacot won't be the player of the year in the ACC, but it's hard to believe that 1 of the 101 voters thought that he was not 1 of the best 5 players in the ACC.
I don’t think there’s a deeper team in college basketball. At first I was upset when the one and done thing started happening and duke was getting the big players (and still are) but college “vets” are the ones who win chips!
With such a long season and so much parity in college basketball, the ranking means nothing. Nice to see as a fan, but as you mentioned that puts a target on our back. Regardless of the target I like our starting 5 and depth this year. Gonna be a great season to watch
It matters only if they are cutting down the nets after the last game of the season!
