Armando Bacot notched his 2nd straight double-double as Hubert Davis’ team did what they needed to do to stay in the winner’s bracket.

The bench will be where we need them to be in no time. Besides Styles, our bench has very little experience. After this tournament and the Indiana game, Hubert will really start injecting some subs into the games on a more regular basis. We're at least getting some good tape these subs can use to improve their game. I first want to see our starters get in their new grove as we saw Caleb and Pete do today. Watch out for Leaky. He's going to be our secret weapon. Our opponents have been playing off Leaky to double Armando and Pete. We need him to keep scoring so he becomes someone who must be guarded in order to make everyone else more effective 😉.
First road game, early tip, tough Portland team, UNC still gelling and figuring out how to play with Nance, still won the game. All in all a good outcome. I was more surprised by the lack of defense. The offense looked better, Caleb looks much more mature, Nance starting to flex on the 3-point line, and RJ keeps doing his thing.
You're right about the depth. Not sure why Trimble didn't play more. Pretty obvious why Nickel was taken out. Even Puff saw limited action. It's a bit weird because this is the type of game that Williams would have sacrificed to develop his bench in preparation for Feb and Mar, but Davis seems like he feels he has to continue winning.
After how good our defense was against JMU, our lack of energy on defense today really disappointed me. It is good to see the offense and especially the 3s finally coming to life. Hubert Davis said in a pre-tournament interview that he would be playing the bench a lot in Portland…and that was not the case at all today. The only way the bench will improve and play a big role is if they get the experience, so I hope Coach Davis gets the confidence to play the bench even if it may result in some sloppier games or even losses.
