The North Carolina Tar Heels host the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Wednesday night looking to get back in the win column after losing at Pittsburgh on Friday. Armando Bacot has scored 20+ points in three straight games and looks to build on that while continuing to draw fouls at an unreal rate.
Can Caleb Love and RJ Davis find some of the magic they had going last season? Will they be able to be a more cohesive backcourt?
Host Isaac Schade suggests that the Tar Heels haven’t figured out that secret ingredient, that special sauce that helps this team find the unity and cohesion it played with last season.
Additionally, the NCAA Transformation Committee released a report on Tuesday, including recommendations which would include the potential of the NCAA Basketball Tournament expanding up to 90 teams. A vote will take place next week at the NCAA Convention in San Antonio.

Hey Isaac, I feel we're missing the same thing that we were missing last year. That's the inability of our guards to consistently break down their defender. The difference is that last year our Wild Shots by Caleb finally started falling as we entered near the tournament. Our shooters were shooting @ a better rate period which made Bacot more effective. So far this year those outside shots aren't falling consistently so we need to be able to break down the defense for scores or dishes. Caleb hasn't improved his handle as much as he should have by now. Hoping things turn around soon…

Manek coming in for Garcia was an upgrade. We don’t have an upgrade to bring in for Nance unfortunately. That’s our weak spot and is what killing us. Nobody fears Nance. I thought he was going to at least be good defensively but he sucks on defense too.
Guard play is not good to inconsistent, and horrible turnovers when the game is tight is also hampering this team! Play the bench more your losing with the starters so why not!

What is missing from this years team. Leadership, I believe. They did not loose much but what else is it.
The missing ingredient is the consistency of this team. When things go haywire, everyone seems to go one their own individual tantrum and it goes from bad to worse. You then have five talented individuals out there instead of a team that is after one common goal, which is to be successful. They start off good and then they get away from the game plan. No one person is the blame, but HD has to recognize that and nip it in the but before it unravels. When the team shares the ball and KEEP everyone involved, this team looks like North Carolina is supposed to look. Sidenote: There has to be a better flow in the rotation. Sometimes the starters are in too long in hopes they will turn it around. Nance looks lost most times. Caleb cant get lost and inactive.
The missing piece is an active and invested Caleb Love. He seems bored
Pete Nance played the 5 spot in the big 10. He's got the most experience of anyone on this team. His rebounding is weak. He should easily be averaging 15 points and 8 rebounds per game. RJ, (6'0") out rebounds Nance (6'11"). When they double Bacot, Nance should be right there for a quick pass for either a dunk or layup!!! Sure he's not a Brady Manek, but even Brady was more active around the rim than Pete. The guard play will improve when we start dominating the interior with either the help of Nance or Washington. Remember, inside out is Carolinas recipe for victory.
A little long but stick with me. I think the missing ingredient is situational lineup changes. Ones that sound counter intuitive but hear me out. For Example, When Love is having an off night, Leaky needs to play less. Nothing has been shown to get Love his shooting stroke back faster, then him getting to the rim a few times. With Leaky in the lineup, defenses sag on him all night. Coaches will gladly trade his 6-8 points if it prevents Love from getting 20. Taking Leaky out for Puff or Nickel forces the defenses to play more honest and clears the lane. Once Love gets hot, let him and Leaky play in the same line up again.
