NCST simply was hacking the crap out of people, thus the foul discrepancy. The flagrant call was BS. Leaky made a basketball play. Had Smith landed and got up, they may not have even called any flagrant. The rule is ambiguous, but that interpretation of a F2 is BS. It wasn't an aggressive or unnecessary non-basketball play. NCST fans are egregiously bad saying they should take out Leaky.
Carolina would be in a much better position if Hubert would have spent the same amount of time and effort on Dontrez Styles at the 2 guard as Love. Trez is a better athlete, more consistent shooter and rebounder!!!! This is coming from a 25 year coach. Caleb is hurting UNC.

Pretty fair take. The vitriol on Twitter towards Leaky and UNC was really ridiculous. It was amazing to me that a fan base would be so uneducated about their own team's stats such that they wouldn't understand the foul discrepancy. It was even reported going into the game that it was something to watch. As for the Leaky foul. I thought it should have been a Flagrant 1 as well until I looked up the actual rule. According to the letter of the rule, they called it correctly. However, I don't see how ejecting a player for what was essentially an accident is going to fix anything. The rule is supposed to discourage this type of play, but the only thing Leaky could have done was let Smith go. No high level competitor is going to do that. In my mind, if it wasn't deemed to be intentional, then the player should not have to be ejected. Looking back to last year's Baylor game, I could see how the officials could make the case that Manek threw the elbow on purpose. However in this case, I don't see how they could do that. At the end of the day, Smith is okay, so it is what it is.

The difference in the number of foul shots was a big difference in the game for sure – UNC shot 27 more than NC State and made a ton of them. I see how that could happen from the stats so far this season (NC State gives up a ton of fouls, UNC doesn't commit that many). Still, I'm surprised how big the difference was. I'm interested to see how the game plays out in a month when UNC comes to PNC Arena to see if it's the same story or not.
