Caleb Love era at North Carolina is OVER | Paxon Wojcik commits to UNC | What's next for Tar Heels?

Caleb Love entered the transfer portal on Monday, becoming the sixth Tar Heel to do so in the two weeks since the portal opened. He joins Tyler Nickel, Justin McKoy, Dontrez Styles, Puff Johnson, and Will Shaver. Love will be remembered for providing some of the most memorable moments in recent Tar Heel memory – most notably hitting the three the essentially ended Coach K’s career and knocked off Duke in the Final Four.

A few hours after Love’s declaration, Brown transfer Paxson Wojcik announced he would be transferring to North Carolina for his final season. Carolina also awaits word from Towson transfer Nick Timberlake and is in the mix for multiple other players as the team looks to fill out five more scholarships.

Alfred Guinto says:

He would have been playing for NBA if height went last year!

Stay vigilant! says:

He had his moments his sophomore season but I was time. I wish him luck

Stay vigilant! says:

I saybits for the best really

ATG Angeletti The Great says:

Marcus Paige game-tying three…..prob the most clutch with most on the line

The Sports Fellowship says:

It’s ok. Ian and Elliot may come and there’s Simeon Wilcher. Caleb was too inconsistent

Juan Doe says:

Disgusted by some of the fanbase, I've never felt embarrassed by fellow fans as much as this year when talking down on Caleb Love. Maybe that didn't send him away, but to read that from fans has got to not feel right.

Meghan McNeill says:

I am really sad over this. l really liked watching him play when he was hot. I liked his demeanor every time they interviewed him. He never made excuses. He didn't deserve the verbal abuse from so many of the "fans". I wanted him to stay. He made big shots for us and had many games he scored 20+ points. I wish Caleb success wherever he goes! He is a talented player and I hope he tears it up next season. 🙏

Murl Kidd says:

Everyone is missing the point, the problem is the coach Roy Williams would have won at least 25 games and they would have made the tournament. Also the reason why players are leaving in the portal.

Darnell Miller says:

Deleted my comment for what, because I mentioned Caleb Love was turnover prone?

Come on sir, be better than that. If a player can freely transfer from a university, or a coach can even bench a player, a fan should be able to jokingly be critical of a player.

I don't come on your board using foul or insulting language, stop being so unnecessarily judgemental of my post and over protective and sensitive trying to grandstand in lieu of Mr. Love transferring.

No one is trying to be disrespectful towards you, Caleb Love or anyone else.

You podcasters wanna preach and be acclaimed and calculate views and likes but wanna be worshipped and play God.

Mckinley Thomas says:

I feel like a lot of the blame can be on the coach if a player is shooting bad from the three point line common sense would say to the shooter come inside the 3-point line and shoot or let another player give him a pick to shoot inside outside it is simple basketball

Alex says:

1. Jordan 2. Caleb 3. Charlotte Smith 4. Luke 5. The Shutdown Man 6. Walter 7. Charlie Scott's first 8. Jordan (yep. Right before the game winner) 9. Rick fox 10. Isaiah hicks
(Harrison Barnes made some insane shots too)

tonpetitami says:

If he does go to Missouri, what are the odds of the committee sending Missouri to Chapel Hill in the inaugural SEC/ACC challenge?

Big Papa Cobb says:

Saw a comment where someone stated the ciaches failed Caleb? How so he played at times when the bench should have been utilized more. They tried to make it the Caleb Show. They created a selfish badketball player. Too much depending one player. That being said I appreciate what he has done for the heels. I hope where ever he goes he does well.

Scott Worley says:

Why Paxon? A mid major guy. How will he help unc? Not a good deal imo. I believe Caleb would've came back to have a monster year.

mike says:

As a Duke fan, he was the one to be feared—Davis was acknowledged as a better player and Bacot was always expected as very steady offensively and big on the boards but Love was always ready to attack with confidence whether he was 8-11 or 1-11.

Jaacksun says:

I’m not gonna miss Caleb one bit and I’m not impressed with Hubert getting Wojcik. Gotta stop with the mid major transfers, they never work out. We’re watching the beginning of the end boys

eaglesmgc says:

Sooooo happy caleb is gone!!!!!!!!!

Lafayette Dickens says:

Change is hard but inevitable. Caleb's leaving forces changes in our team that perhaps we need and at the same time gives him a fresh start. Had he stayed, we would be basically seeing the same core group but not now. Now we are guaranteed to see something new and more of coach Davis' choosing so we'll see how that plays out. It was telling that T. Nick would bail with a likely starting position on the horizon. He must have not been happy or pleased with the scheme. Anyway next year the starting lineup is going to be more new than old. Hopefully this will be a good thing. I don't think it could get much worse. Shooters and ball handlers needed and we must have a serviceable backup for the big guy otherwise we're always a turned ankle away from disaster. Final point, we're going to miss Leaky big time next year. He was the glue guy.

Orrin Robbins says:

Paxton's (with a T) dad, Doug Wojcik, had a great quote when he first came to UNC as an assistant. Matt Doherty asked Dean Smith to come in & give a primer to his new staff on some aspect of basketball. Afterwards Doug said it was like attending a math class taught by Albert Einstein.

Roger Beck says:

It's sad to see any transfer, but especially a caliber player as Love as a starter.

Eddie Cartwright says:

I remember when the Smith Center crowd booed King Rice. The treatment of Caleb Love is the second time I've been embarrassed to be a Tar Heel fan.

Tony Dowd says:

Gonna be honest. Not gonna miss Caleb's style of play. I never felt he was a team first kinda guy. Some things a coach just can't change.
Hubert is gonna be great. Caleb is gonna be great. It's time to rebuild a dynasty.

Anthony Green says:

Hubert Davis lost respect from the players in this team. A team looses 6-8 players on a team is not a good sign for UNC basketball. Hubert not playing the bench in which he could not set Caleb out for more time to discipline him. The kid had to play just about the entire game due to Hubert Davis. The UNC basketball program has been taken back because of him. No way a kid like Love should be leaving UNC. As for all you folks that went at this kid personally shame on you. Keep in mind these kids are just somebody sons and daughters. Keep the personal attacks off the kids. These kids leaving starts at the top. Caleb Love played his ass off for this university. Good luck going forward Caleb. Glad to have had you for a Tarheel.

James Schuh says:

I'm optimistic I think Carolina will do much better this year. Go Carolina💙💙💙💙sometimes change is good for the atmosphere.

Lamar Walker says:

I think Alabama is the spot for him..him and Nate oats share the same agent
