Should UNC pursue HUNTER DICKINSON in the transfer portal? | Ian Jackson / Elliot Cadeau updates

Michigan big man Hunter Dickinson entered the transfer portal over the weekend and will be one of the most sought after players this offseason. He scored 18.5 points this past season, stands 7’1, would provide rim protection, oh and by the way: knocks down 3s at a career 36% clip including 42.1% last season. Host Isaac Schade lays out reasons he would and would not fit with Carolina, and in particular, Armando Bacot in the frontcourt. Could he form another big three with Bacot and RJ Davis? What would it mean for Jalen Washington’s role? The Tar Heels need front court help, and this would provide that in a massive way.

Ian Jackson and Elliot Cadeau both provided some updates in their reclassification rumors over the weekend. Both still project to stay in 2024 although are doing things and having conversations that would allow the move to happen if decided upon.

The rumor mill was swirling about Villanova’s Justin Moore to UNC, but it was not to be as the Wildcat will stay home for his 5th and final season.

This Hunter stuff just won't make sense…yeah he's hit a 3 pointer or 2 but that doesn't make him a stretch 4..I can't see a reason to have to 5's on the court and that dude surely aint a backup..I do agree with Jalen tho..he def needs to work his way back and not suddenly be expected to play 35 mins a game.

tonpetitami says:

Of course UConn will win another championship. They have never lost in the final and they have somehow been the higher seed in the final as a 3, a 7 and now a 4 seed because they have played against 8 and 5 seeds. I wish UNC were this efficient and lucky

Squishy McSquisherson says:

I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum. I say no, for MANY reasons.

1. HD is trying to modernize this team. Move away from 2 bigs. This just delays that process.

2. I know several Michigan alumni (including a former teammate of mine) who stated very matter of fact, Dickinson is a ME ME ME guy. That's why Michigan was so disappointing this season and he's NOT coming to UNC to share the shine.

3. The spacing is TERRIBLE. Sure Dickinson can hit 3's. But he's a 5. Mondo is a 5. Did you all not just watch the disaster we witnessed last season? Difference between a big who CAN hit 3's and a Stretch 4.

But hey, what do I know. I can tell you, if this team is going to evolve into modern basketball, continuing to go year to year not letting this staff move into the direction they want, 1 in 4 out, you're gonna continue to see struggles and just use HD as the scapegoat.

Trey Reacts says:

PG: Davis
SG: Timberlake
SF: Dalton Knecht
PF: Dickerson
C: Bacot
having Simeon, Washington, Paxton, Dunn, Trimble off the bench to go 8-9 deep

Would be ideal having the extra rebounding, shooting, size.

Trey Reacts says:

You could play them together and since Davis don’t like having depth. You can also stagger them and have one of them on the floor at all times

Trey Reacts says:

I love the fit, the spacing can help but having 2 big bodies to bring by that Carolina culture of being the best rebounding teams. That was a huge part of our culture.

The Nintenerd says:

I definitely think Dickinson is at least looking into and talking to. He's an experienced big who could provide needed depth at the 5. I just wonder if he would be someone who feels like he should be a starter rather than bench depth. I don't want a repeat of this season with Pete Nance, where we very quickly learned that he was a 5 and not a 4, and it hurt our season due to a lack of acceptance of that. I would want Dickinson to be strictly depth at the 5 for Mando and nothing else, and I'm unsure if he would be willing to be someone who only plays 10-18 minutes a game. Still, I think the coaching staff should absolutely look into getting him, especially since Mando seems excited about the possibility.

David Butler says:

Bring him, Armondo stays and has to play hurt plus we need a big man that can knock down the three.
