On Tuesday Duke’s Kyle Filipowski announced his intention to return to Durham for his sophomore year. In a corresponding move, incoming freshman Mackenzie Mgbako asked for a release from his National Letter of Intent so that he could re-open his recruiting. Mgbako is a high school teammate of incoming Carolina freshman Simeon Wilcher. Carolina needs a legit stretch four and that’s exactly what Mgbako would bring to the table alongside Armando Bacot in the frontcourt with RJ Davis holding it down in the backcourt.
Earlier on Tuesday, Louisville transfer Jae’lyn Withers announced his commitment to North Carolina. The rising redshirt senior also has a COVID year of eligibility and could play in Chapel Hill for two seasons.

Not getting excited bc it’s incredibly unlikely but he is exactly what we need. Shooter, athletic versatile. Mando is phenomenal but he is the opposite of those things. He would be the literal perfect pairing with Mando.
I know he still needs to hit that portal hard but Davis has GOT to at least try for Mack! That is your starting PF..I mean he's already been on an official visit last year and he is Wilcher's teammate so idk how these calls didn't start yesterday morning

Don’t work coach pac I did the same thing about harrison too lol. But also he was mainly playing the 2&1 positions, which he did a solid job at. But say he plays more the 4 position how much more better will he be. I think he can play similar to a draymond green role
A lot of folks said that NIL would kill college basketball. I for one think its helping because kids are staying longer in some situations. However, this transfer nonsense is the most ridiculous thing to ever hit college sports.
I think Harrison compares closer to Theo than Justin. Which is great for Carolina regardless.

Washington can back up Mando at the 5. He is not quick enough to play the 4 on the perimeter. Obviously we need a couple 3/4's. I think we need an elite PG so RJ can shoot more. A Jaden Bradley or something. Elite guards win in college.
If there’s one thing I do know that Hubert does well is recruit. So if he really wants Mack then he can get him

Mbacko getting out of Duke was still kind of surprising–Flip is going to play the 5 spot unless they bring in someone through the transfer portal… even if they do, he'll still play a lot of minutes at the 5 just like he did last season. Duke's starting lineup without any new transfers would be Proctor, McCain, Mitchell, Mbacko, Filipowski… Foster, Powers, Young, Stewart and possibly Schutt off the bench. Honestly, if anyone dropped, I thought it would be Stewart.
I don't get the PF thing–Mbacko's game is more of a wing and Duke plays position less basketball on offense outside PG and he would've gotten a lot of shot attempts… sounded like he didn't want to be in the shadow of anybody else and he'd have the same issue with Davis and Bacot at UNC. Or perhaps it's about relationships and he's either made new ones at the All American and Nike Hoop Summit games or a rift has been created with either McCain or Stewart during those times–though I tend to doubt the latter. Or it's UNC and he simply wants to play with Wilcher.
Strange stuff.
