Jarin Stevenson commits to Bama – NOT AN INDICTMENT ON UNC | Camp Game #2 Report

Jarin Stevenson committed to Alabama on Wednesday over North Carolina and Virginia. Combined with GG Jackson’s decommitment and Simeon Wilcher’s decommitment, it might feel like a “sky is falling” moment. However, it’s not that and it’s not an indictment on UNC recruiting, but rather, it’s a sign of the times. In this one-year-at-time approach to school, players look more at the short-term opportunities rather than always a full educational commitment.

The second Hubert Davis basketball camp wrapped up on Wednesday and the current players beat the alums this time around 71-68. Elliot Cadeau didn’t played because of a lower body injury, but RJ Davis, Cormac Ryan, Harrison Ingram, Jae’lyn Withers, and Armando Bacot started for the current players.

The USA women’s World Cup roster was announced on Tuesday and two Tar Heels – Emily Fox (1st appearance) and Crystal Dunn (2nd) both made the team. The Tar Heels have now had multiple players on all nine USA women’s World Cup rosters.

Dr. Toussaint C. Adams says:

Not mad at Stevenson. He wasn’t going to be much of a factor for this team and when you look at our recent substitution patterns, the writing was on the wall.

I like our 10. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. I believe Paxson Wojcik is better than his advertisement.

Earl Kincy says:

I truly think that job in Stevenson is making a mistake not that he chose Alabama but that he reclassified that he's rushing himself and I see why a lot of the Old School coaches are retiring now like college basketball is like a open field a market all about money instead of letting kids enjoy the sport that they love ❤️💛💚 I wish him well

UNC 910 says:

I wish the best for the kid. I will say being a 5 star who’s 6’9 playing in a 2A conference and only averaging 18 ppg is pretty hilarious. Side note-don’t kill anyone in Alabama

Bill W says:

Long and short of these one and done players is that they aren't going anywhere that isn't guaranteeing them a starting role. I don't believe this kid is ready to start in the ACC on day one and I'm betting Davis was honest and told him that. I'll also bet that Alabama told him he would start on day 1. It's sad to lose a few of these kids but many of them are unrealistic about their ability to move from high school to college and unwilling to come off the bench for a year and if that is what you believe then Carolina probably isn't the place for you.

BROCK RTR🐘 says:

North Carolina basketball ain’t ready for bama we can hang with u guys we beat y’all fair. And square last year NIL is helping these other teams besides Kentucky and unc now it’s parity don’t hate on jarin Stevenson for not choosing u guys he wants to pave his on way to greatness and it’s not at unc it’s rolling with my crimson tide he fits Nate oats system very well and he’s gonna dunk on unc get ready alley hoop🤣🐘💪🏻💯

Tony Dowd says:

As an everydayer, I think we're all good at UNC. So much talent to go round. 😮😅
I personally prefer more mature players anyway. These one and dones do nothing for me. Dook proves this year after year. 😂😂😂

dsteele2332 says:

We live a world where a major basketball program like UNC can't get a high level player over Alabama..sounds so crazy to think of that lol…these comments about the kid are corny as hell tho…no reason to bash a kid for where he wants to go to school…hell bama is about to have a guy go in the top 3 of the draft…we can't even produce a 2nd rounder right now so hey…

Jason Allred says:

This was all about his daddy wanting a job at the school he goes to. BAMA has a track record of scum and have given this for his son. This has NOTHING to do with clean recruiting and a change of heart thing so that talk needs to stop. This is about daddy and HIS wants.

UNC is much better off without this drama. We have had enough of that last season and do not need this again now.

Just because he was a first offer, mom played here blah blah blah he is not college ready , has terrible shooting and was playing against competition that look like 8th graders.

No,, this was not about Jarin but his daddy. Period.

Meat Tooth says:

sky is not falling. just wanted an athletic tall PF on this upcoming season. i suspect HD could not promise a big role if reclassing and Bama told him he could reclass and start immediately. Starting/PT correlates with NIL $s.

jim ROBINSON says:

I said from the very beginning this young man needs to do what's best for him and his family. If you want a fast track to the NBA don't go to UNC. If you want to be a pro for a long time go to UNC. Congratulations young we wish you the best

tonpetitami says:

🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 How many 'not an indictment on unc's have you used in the last year? GG Jackson decommitting? First Pre-season No. 1 not even making the tournament? Throwing a tantrum and refusing to play in NIT? Simeon Welcher decommitting? Three open scholarships that no transfers want? And now Stevens ditching you for a much better program? Maybe you unc homers should face the fact: the small trash garbage unc is a has-been and won't be relevant again especially when people can get paid much much much much more in SEC and B1G and play for much much much much better coaches at KU or UConn, and to receive a much much much much much more credible education to boot🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

Squishy McSquisherson says:

I think it IS an indictment on UNC. Let's not act like he's starting at Bama this year. As soon as Grant Nelson committed to Bama a couple weeks ago, that should've closed the door there. You can't lose a kid in your backyard who's been a hard lean your way for over a year because you couldn't convince him the PT was there.

He's coming off the bench there.

At the end of the day, I get his parents both played, but they need to advise their son better. I like Jarin and his game, but he's not ready for college ball. Physically or skill wise. He should've stayed in his class and transferred to a higher level HS to really get prepared.

Just watch.

Either way, on to the next. Push in all the chips to lock up Boogie and focus on '25.

jeffrey Polly says:

Ask GG how reclassing and going to another school went??????????

jeffrey Polly says:

Losing Jarin is a blessing in disguise. He isn’t ready for college and when HD told him he didn’t want to hear it. He doesn’t want to be coached and is a diva who is all about himself.

Gloria Williams says:

Sound like he is selfish and wants yo play right away ,no matter what. How can you leave your basketball stste and go to a school yhat wont never reach a championship! It is a football school. Sorry kid you mess ip bad!.
