We are in NBA free agency season and it’s a great time to try and change the negative around Carolina basketball success in the NBA in recent years. Cam Johnson helped that out in a major way by landing a four-year-$108 million deal with the Brooklyn Nets. Not to be outdone, Harrison Barnes and Coby White both agreed on a new contract with their respective teams, the Kings and Bulls.
In ESPN’s first 2024 NBA Mock Draft, no Tar Heels were listed. If that came true, it would be the first time since 2002-04 that UNC would have multiple years in a row with no NBA Draftees coming from Carolina.
Tar Heel Zac Gallen has made his first All-Star Game as an Arizona Diamondbacks. Cam Johnson and Walker Kessler will be on the US FIBA World Cup roster later this summer.

Cam developed and spent the last 2 years with us. Pitt cannot claim him. Kessler is Auburns, he broke out with them. This stuff is crazy tho cause we claim Brady even tho he spent 4 years @ Oklahoma. Who claims Garrison Brooks? Lol
The thing about Carolina recruiting over the past few years is that we haven’t gotten those physically gifted Dawgs!! We’ve gotten really good college players but mainly role players. Ian Jackson could be that difference maker we need to change that. Still hoping also that Cole Anthony finds his niche in the league and starts to dominate!
If the season goes as hoped, it could be Cadeau in the 1st round and Ingram in the 2nd. I think that's the ceiling draft-wise for '24.
I do not and will not consider Kessler a Tar Heel. I doubt he considers himself a Heel. I doubt he would ever show up at any alumni events and if he did he is more likely to be booed as cheered.
I do not really care about how many Heels in the league. Though I do understand it is an indicator of past success.
