Self vs Smart is no contest. 99 out of 100 ADs would select Self over Smart. And the one AD that selects Smart would be fired in a few years.
The fact that Shaka used to be the coach at Texas has nothing to do with it. Rick Barnes used to be the head coach at Texas and Bill Self has NEVER gotten into it with Barnes. In fact, he speaks highly of Barnes. I think it has a lot more to do with Shaka. The guy even talked a little trash when he took the Texas job and there were even issues when he was at VCU and they eliminated KU in the Elite Eight. The Morris Twins talking smack to the VCU players in the tunnel before the game definitely didn't help.
Maybe he has no respect for cheating programs ?
After Marquette loss to Purdue Shaka praised Matt Painter and Purdue for being a class act. Maybe that comment was also directed at Bill Self
Why did Shaka run onto the court after McCullar said something to him? Shaka has coached 15 years but can't he handle a little trash talk. The way he acted he could have gotten T-ed up for running onto the court. It could have been a game turning moment if the refs T-ed him up (like they could have). I'm not a fan of trash talk but man grow a pair Shaka and smile it off like most coaches do. Set an example to your players who also have to handle trash talk calmly.
