UNC falls at GT | RJ Davis was fouled…but that didn't lose the game | RJ needs help offensively

North Carolina lost their first ACC game of the season on Tuesday night in Atlanta, 74-73 to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. RJ Davis had 28 points and did everything he could to carry the team to victory, but it wasn’t enough (at least according to a no-call on the last play of the game). Jalen Washington provided a great spark off the bench. Elliot Cadeau unfortunately fouled out. Free throws and first half turnovers were Carolina’s ultimate undoing.

Oh, I got plenty to say! First I think Bact is upset ,because Ingram is taking his shine and RJ. His stick is dropping and he is not the Bacot played in yester years. He is getting move by guards and not mak baskets under over or top of the basket. A defense team will kill them and a 3 point shooting team. Please Bacot don't let your upset destroy thus team. I know RJ might get player of the year and Harrison is a strong rebounder. RYAN is getting like Celeb LOVE. He might shoot 3s one night and can't find him the next game. If unc don't play like they have been Duke hands down win. Elliot need to stop those quick fouls. .just stay in front if your man. GOOD LUCK HEELS. TAKE CARE OF YOUR TUFF! BECAUSE DUKE WILL BE WAITING AT THERE TUFF.

@stayvigilant7856 says:

Very very had call, but we need more from our vets bacot cormac qnd ingram.. Rj needs more offense help from them. Lets get it going and get back on track sat night and beat dook. Lets Go Tar Heels!!

@BrandonTWills says:

This is a sweet sixteen UNC team. If everything goes right they could win the NCAA, but I wouldn’t bet on that happening until they can put together a full game of basketball & not just spurts or a half.

Maybe they can hang an ACC tournament banner though. That would be nice, it’s been way way too long.

@BrandonTWills says:

Our early run was not because we were prepared & ready to play, but because GT was being GT & not putting up any fight.

The second GT realized how weak we are, the game was over. They showed pretty clearly UNC had overlooked them & was not taking this game seriously. Squeaking by a bunch of unranked teams is not the mark of a champion.

The players admitted as much after the game. They thought they wanted to win, but when confront with players who truly wanted to win, we wilted & our players know it. Hard to bounce back from that in a day or two.

@05racebox says:

Isaac I can’t help but be upset at you for saying we wouldn’t lose this one. As a Carolina fan you should know not to ever get comfortable 😂

@BrandonTWills says:

You should not have been so sure this wasn’t going to be a trap game. Good way to jinx a team no matter what the definition of “is” is.

@biggkush4796 says:

BIGG KUSH EVERYDAYER CHECKING IN 10 games in a row nice UNC TARHEELZZZZ had a off day and tired legs POUR OFFICATING DIDN'T FEED THE POST ALOT TO MANY 3ZZZZ LETS BEAT DUKE🎉🎉

@michaelholbrook9645 says:

We wasted too many easy scoring opportunities right underneath the basket, in addition to uncharacteristically bad free-throw shooting. And of course, the ultimate failure of letting the five-star freshman guard from Canada dictate the final outcome of the game.

@meattooth1303 says:

ec was pushed off on a couple of those 'fouls'. in fact, they got away with pushing the defender off the entire evening. i mentioned to my kid last night that ec does not use his left hand when shooting left layups after the second time he shot with his right hand and missed. i noticed this a few games ago. weird how a kid who has such great handles is not able to shoot left handed layups.

@meattooth1303 says:

just kills me how dook gets the questionable foul call in the same scenario leading them to the W. the type of play refs normally do not blow whistles. but 3 days later, same scenario but this time RJ is actually fouled and fouled enough he could not get the shot off accurately. that was a foul that everyone who saw it said it defintely should have been called, unlike dook's gift. had the refs made the right call, heels win, even if they did not deserve it. reason I did not go ballistic over the no call was b/c the heels played uninspired ball and were out hustled all game long by GT.

heels do not get preferential ref treatment like the other blue bloods. dook has won so many games with the help of the refs for decades. i hoped that BS would stop when kay left but it did not. another blue blood similar example was the uk vs a&m game a week or so ago. uk shoots a final seconds shot, misses and during the RB, the refs call a&m for a foul that DID NOT HAPPEN. Saw every angle in slow mo and no contact occurred. but the refs put them on the line where they sent it to OT. a&m essentially had to win that game 2 times. the fix is in with dook, uk and ku.

@cordairotucker6005 says:

Free throws, 2nd half we came out lazy and that was a foul at the end

@rogerbeck3560 says:

I look at how many missed free throws that would have changed the game along with the unforced turnovers. Just got to do the little things. Yes that was a foul at the end with Davis, but we also shot horrible save for Davis.

@Majesticon says:

We missed so many shots. That's kinda all it amounts to.

@michaelmuldrow1421 says:

Carolinas too good to have that many turnovers

@coachprescott72 says:

That last play wasn't the reason they lost.

@josephmcquaig258 says:

What about fouls committed by UNC that wasn't called but should have been. Do a segment/ show on this

@JamesSkillen-cd1ir says:

Coach Davis says that the best players play….

Cormac Ryan played 35 minutes last night. For the entire year, 20 games he only makes 30% of his 3 Point Shots, 30% He was 3 for 10 again last night. He was 0 for 4 or 0% on 2 point attempts. To contribute to the team you need to shot a minimum of 33% from the 3 point line. On his 2 point attempts last night; Wow! they were bricks! None of them had a chance to go in. I like his positive attitude and his love for the game but he does not deserve to play 35 minutes for this team.

His BPM (Box Plus/Minus) which is an estimate of points per 100 possessions a player contributed above an AVERAGE PLAYER in the League. Its a statistic that estimates your value to your team for the game. For Example RJ Davis BPM last night was 15.3. Paxon Wojcik played 3 minutes, he committed 1 foul and had 1 TO. His BPM for the game was -25.5. Cormac Ryan's BPM for the game was -2.7; which means last night he didn't help the Tar Heels.

Harrison Ingram shot 28.6% (2/7) from the 3 point line and 14.3% (1/7) on 2 point shots. Harrison played 36 minutes last night. His BPM was 0.9.

Armando Bacot shot 50% (4/8) from the floor last night. Bacot only took 8 shots while Ryan & Ingram took 28 shots! That is why we loss this game !!!

Caoch Davis needs to get this under control, in no world should Cormac Ryan put up more shots than Armando Bacot. Harrison Ingram shouldn't take more shots than Armando Bacot.

Last night wasn't a trap game, Hubert Davis and the Coaching staff need to tell their players to pass the ball into the PAINT !!!!

Heeled 82'

@michaelmuldrow1421 says:

Why can't they cut back on turnovers it's ridiculous

@markking9093 says:

We needed this game. It's weird that Coach Davis was talking about getting a big head. In a weird way glad we didn't win this game.

@TwDB252 says:

Can’t make excuses Harrison and Cormac went 5-17 from the field. Idk what’s happened to Armondo. I guess Father time is truly undefeated cause he a shell of himself. That drive by RJ was a foul but expecting the ref to bail you out at the end of the game is never gd. We make half the FT’s we missed and we win. We musta missed 6-7 point blank layups and bunnies. Refs be damned this was us not respecting a lesser team. They wanted it more point blank!

@TwDB252 says:

Hey man wasn’t we talking about the dreaded trap game just yesterday? I’m just saying man looking ahead ain’t never great. Ever! GT a wounded hungry desperate team. Why look past them for Duke?

@darleboler7404 says:

Elliott doesn't play defense good enough he's going to get murdered against Duke

@darleboler7404 says:

I'm going to say this I don't think Carolina should start two small guards and Cormac Ryan that makes us too small Badcock is not a leading up inside for us to play that small you got to play Withers more minutes because he's very athletic Huber does not matchup defensively enough

@johncramer1783 says:

I was saying this team has not got to the level I think they can get to take this game learn from it get better in practice and get ready for poook go heels minor set back for a major come back reset refocus

@Michael-dd6hl says:

We shot like crap at all three levels and missing 8 FTs is unacceptable. We deserved to lose. I'm glad we got that junk outta the way. Now, Duke comes calling and we'd better take good shots, Armando best start putting up those typical double doubles. Cormac and Harrison and Elliot need to be more productive. I'm picking Duke to win 83-79. Because watching Carolina for 43 years tells me we can't get anything easy. If Carolina proves me wrong, then we're gonna be regular season Champs. We'll see.

@tomasjohnson7780 says:

Ted Valentine strikes again ! Ncaa wouldn't let him call the big tournament last year. If you feel this way, why is he allowed to call any game ???

@jayhoav2120 says:

1) if we get that call, rj would hit and those two free throws erase all of our mistakes for the night. It's better that we lost and got a wake up call

2) majority of the time a guard drives on Armando, they get a shot up but he usually blocks it. If you gave George that same shot, switching hands, with Armando contesting he's missing that 4 out of 5. He just made an amazing bucket.

3) we will definitely learn our lessons from this. Nothing from this team's mentality tells me different so far

@chowido76 says:

Ryan kept rushing his shot. He missed too many wide open shots with plenty of time on the clock.

@chowido76 says:

Inaddition to his last drive. RJ was also fouled under the basket (trying to get position) when the gaurd scored on Bacot.. The refs controlled the game with these non calls against UNC. Also, the refs blew the whistle on Elliot everytime he got in front of a defender. He wasnt aloud to defend even when they initiated contact. It was unbelievable!

@O.G.KNOWLEDGE-RPG says:

To be honest UNC gave up too many offensive boards but the refs didn’t do any better. They literally let Naithan George push off like four different times with no calls! But the fouls called on Elliot Cadeau were bogus! You keep putting out great UNC content Isaac 👍🏾💪🏾💯
