North Carolina has dropped three of their last five after rattling off 10 straight. Hubert Davis’ club now has six remaining regular season games to round back into form before the ACC and NCAA Tournaments. What do they need to do to get back on track in that stretch? RJ Davis has had interesting shooting splits of late, shooting over 40% from three and around 25% from two in UNC’s last 4 games. That’s directly coincided with Armando Bacot having his first stretch of four straight double-doubles. Coincidence? Or is there something to it? North Carolina’s bench usage has fallen to 331st in the nation – why are we seeing even less and less of the bench?

Is UNC capable of shifting into a zone defense when needed? It seemed necessary against Syracuse when the bigger guards kept abusing RJ and Elliot.
Iron whatever, if they do not lose. Apparently, iron # lose because it feels so desperate.
Our bench would be starters at GT or Cuse.
There was a game in 2016 where Bryce and Hicks were absolutely vivisecting the Syracuse zone. Like, they were just torching it. They had bryce jn the high post with Hicks diving and dunking, it was a work of art.
Coach Davis is going to die playing man to man defense when his personal doesn't fit that style of play. The guards are to small as opponents shoot over UNC guards and body them to get to their spots. Syracuse called a TO when UNC took the lead and out of the TO they ran the pick and roll and got the match-up they wanted which was Bacot on a guard and they drove to the basket and retook the lead, the same play and situation GT used on the winning layup when they got Bacot on a guard. It's to late to employ a zone defense but everyone has played zone so the principles are the same ,1-3-1 or 2-1-2 defense would protect the guards and Bacot and you could employ a man to man after made baskets and a zone off of missed baskets which would keep opponents off balance. Throw in half court traps which would keep teams from running their offenses efficiently and eat up shot clock seconds. RJ is shooting at a respectable clip from behind the 3 but his percentage drops on 2's because he's forcing bad shots because teams aren't letting him see the 3 like they were earlier in the season but if Ingram and Bacot got the ball in their spots then defenses would collapse and they could kick out to RJ for better looks but if Ingram and Bacot aren't getting good looks to make defenses collapse RJ will continue to have problems getting the looks he wants. Ryan is in the way,the 18 points he scored is a mirage when you throw in his turnovers and bad defensive lapses. RJ and Ingram need to run the pick and roll instead of Bacot and RJ because Ingram can hit the 3 and put the ball on the deck and drive

One huge thing is when you face a 2-3 zone, you can't put 4 players on the perimeter to play pass around for 20 seconds. Players have to criss-cross the court to open things up. If you going to put someone in the center make it rj so you know he can make the short shot if need be. Old Carolina basketball always took it to the opponent with a majority of 2 point shots and still beat a 3 point shooting team ! If your 3's are falling, by all means light it up. But way to many shots are wasted just trying to get that 3 when the Carolina 2 point score in well less than 8 seconds, most of their possessions they are scoring in 6 seconds. Anyway we are all excellent coaches on the couch 😅. Go HEELS!!!
Number 1. Need more PT for J. Washington and Z. High need more playing time. Bacot should not be paying 30 minutes.
Am I the only one who thinks that you cannot dribble the ball if you lose it pick it back up? He travelled before the bank 3 shot.
my main disappointment is how unc played the last 3-5 minutes vs gt, clemson, miami and cuse. had that miami game had 30-60 more seconds left, we may have lost. and except for miami, the 1st 4 minutes of the mentioned games set the pace and tone in the opponent's favor. funny thing is i had just turned on the miami game and unc was up 20-8 and immediately miami came back, taking the 1st half lead.
