North Carolina downs Duke but Kyle Filipowski 'trip,' postgame incident overshadow ACC #basketball

In a dramatic clash between rivals, North Carolina emerged victorious over Duke, but the game was marred by a controversial incident involving Duke star Kyle Filipowski and Tar Heels’ player Harrison Ingram. The tension escalated post-game when Ingram faced hostility from the Cameron Crazies, Duke’s fervent student section.

The incident began with Ingram appearing to be deliberately tripped by Filipowski during gameplay, sparking immediate speculation and uproar on social media platforms. As the game concluded with North Carolina clinching the ACC regular season championship with a score of 84-79, Ingram and his teammates faced a less-than-welcoming reception from the Duke crowd as they left the court.

Ingram recounted facing a barrage of objects, including water, ice, and even a gumball, hurled at him by the Cameron Crazies. Despite the hostility, Ingram described the atmosphere as “lit” and expressed that the exchange of banter was all in good fun.

Video footage captured the tense moments both during and after the game, showing Ingram and Filipowski getting tangled up on the court, leading to Ingram’s fall. While Ingram believed he was intentionally tripped, Filipowski maintained that it was accidental, attributing it to a slip.

Despite the contentious nature of the incident, both coaches, Jon Scheyer of Duke and Hubert Davis of North Carolina, refrained from addressing the specific play during their post-game press conferences. Instead, Scheyer expressed gratitude to the fans and students for their unwavering support, despite the disappointment of the loss.

The intense rivalry between North Carolina and Duke once again took center stage, but this time, it was overshadowed by the controversy surrounding Filipowski’s alleged trip and the ensuing post-game altercation, leaving a bitter aftertaste to an otherwise exhilarating match.

Duke's dirty deeds go way back. Remember the 1992 Christian Laettner stomp of Kentucky's Timberlake? Should have been ejected, but he stays in to hit the game winner!

In the video of wake forest game,he's clearly holding his foot up trying to trip someone

As a Hokie I really do not see how anyone thought Duke could beat UNC this year. UNC has too many veterans who have years of college games under their belts. I frankly want both teams to lose when Duke and UNC play, but clearly UNC is the better team this year. Last year, Duke was better. UNC has found their Brady Manek replacement in Harrison Ingram, then doubled down on vets by getting Ryan from Notre Dame. UNC may win the Natty this year.

Only way Duke wins game if Carolina is not around
They tend to look behind their shoulder if Carolina around!
Duke usually plan the coronation night just like Coach K retirement night
And now to share the title at Duke,that is at Duke and lost!

Duke has always had bad sportsmanship 😢fans/players….if the shoe was on the other foot 🦶???

@ronniegraham7833 says:

The problem with Duke is the coach. The coach is in denial of the Duke crazies , therefore the Duke players will continue to be harass after losing important games and tripped by the fans during storming of the court by the fans. Go Carolina, the class of the south!!!

Ingram went to the referee and asked him about it. The referee said that he didn’t see it. I saw it and I was at home watching the game. RJ DAVIS was fouled and there was no call. Then the referees said it was a shot clock violation. EC made a 3 pointer, referee called it a 2 point basket.
But I like the calmness of the Carolina players. They had the fans and the referees and the Duke players to beat that night.

Filipowski was awarded the “Grayson Allen Memorial Award” by the Duke coaching staff postgame.

Once again Duke not man enough to own up to it

@jeffreybell4801 says:

This isn’t the first case of duke having a dirty player! Every year there is always one! He can deny it all day long but video shows the evidence he intentionally tried! There’s nothing wrong with banging and hard playing but what he did is inexcusable!

@user-py7yo9fv7w says:

" flip" should have been ejected somehow Valentine and the other refs never sent to see the dirty tricks they can help as much as they can but they can't put ball in the basket for them. Hope NCAA refs do better😮

@Kommunik8Moor says:
