The Wolfpack seemingly pulled off a miracle, defeating the Cavaliers 73-65 in overtime to advance to their first ACC Tournament title game since 2007. NC State becomes the first team to play on Tuesday of the ACC Tournament and advance to the championship game on Saturday. NC State trailed by five and had committed an intentional foul that would give Virginia two free throw attempts and possession with 1:10 to go in the game, and yet Michael O’Connell hit a three-pointer as time expired to send the game to overtime. In overtime, D.J. Burns Jr. scored seven of his team-high 19 points to lead the Wolfpack to the win. O’Connell and Ben Middlebrooks each scored 12 points. For Virginia, Isaac McKneely scored a game-high 23 points and was 5-9 from beyond the three-point arc. Reece Beekman had 17 points and 11 rebounds.

As a UNC fan with season tickets to NC State (football not bball) im extremely torn. UNC trying to lock in the last #1 seed but NC State needs the win to get to the tournament. I’m a die hard Carolina fan and I would be OK if we lost. I would love to see State win and get the automatic bid – that’s worth a 2 seed if it knocks us out of the 1 slot.
Edit: a loss to us (UNC) against a hot State team wouldn’t matter too much but the win to State would be legendary.
NC State's run through this installment of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament has been nothing short of miraculous considering they hadn't given us but little indication they were capable of it at any point during the regular season!!!!! For the first time in the tournament though, they had a game that was gift wrapped to them! The wins over Louisville, Syracuse and Duke we're earned (NC State outplayed all three)! This one was a Virginia meltdown at the FT line! No offense, but State will need to take the time and send the Cavaliers a thank you card! Missed 4 of their last 5 at the stripe during the final minute and change to over courteous leave the door ajar! I am so hoping State can beat the Tar Holes, but this was 100% a Virginia choke job
