Too Much Defense Focus at the Start. Thinking about our loss overnight. Think about the beginning of the game: The last thing the Coaching staff emphasizes: "Defense creates Offense!" Okay, that's true but consider this: you're a player coming out onto the floor and you're thinking Defense, defense, defense… Stop for a second and think about that. In many cases, the offensive opportunities present themselves and by mid-way thru the half, the team has a good balance of defense and offense. But this has happened only by chance in a way. Occasionally, this strategy fails – Why? The other team, like State, focuses on offense and they see those three dropping. They get confidence, then they push it inside and get success and they're off to the races. Do you see what I mean? What I'm saying is that maybe we need to consider pushing offense, just to get us going in the groove, and only then switching to defense. In most of our losses, including State, we simply haven't focused on get our offensive groove going before focusing on offense. I get why the coaches focus so much on defense but particularly late in the season, they need to back that off, at least for a while.

The game seemed to pivot from a promising comeback to a loss of momentum after a bad pass to a heavily defended Armando near the top of the key which led to a turnover late in the 2nd half. This was the last serious comeback.

I think its mighty strange that almost all the top teams lost in the conference tournament it seems like they are trying to get more teams in from the conference and the player from Duke made the comment they wasn't worried about winning that tournament it just really seem strange and North Carolina played really flat with no type of enthusiasm like state.
One other thing. Disclaimer: I could never be a college basketball coach lol; all the stuff that goes into it, knowing the college game and all the details just baffles me. And I love Coach Davis and all the coaches, hope the staff stays a long time (love the addition of Marcus Paige, my favorite player of all time).
But… I thought we put too much emphasis om DJ Burns, doubling him early on and throughout the game. Yes he is big, he has great touch around the basket, and is playing great basketball. But I don't remember us doubling him the 2 games before.
I guess my thoughts are, if it aint broke dont fix it and dont leave shooters open by doubling.
But again, Im a big fan, and dont we get critical at times whether we want to or not? Haha

We must get back to moving the ball around and finding the open man and get away from the two man game on offense. The team gets stagnant when they start overly focusing on Armando but scoring balance is vital for a high level success.
While win streaks bring confidence, winning 15 games in a row in college basketball is an extremely improbable feat. Id rather lose here than in the NCAAs.
