Basketball teams typically sub just a few players at a time. Perhaps it’s Jalen Washington coming in for Armando Bacot or Seth Trimble for RJ Davis. Occasionally a basketball team will employ a platoon system and sub five-for-five. John Calipari famously tried it out at Kentucky several years ago. Grinnell College in Iowa does it on a consistent basis as part of their breakneck pace. Does UNC have the personnel to try it this season?
In the midst of the excitement of the return of Armando Bacot and Seth Trimble along with the re-class of Elliot Cadeau and the influx of transfers (Cormac Ryan, Harrison Ingram, Paxson Wojcik, Jae’lyn Withers, James Okonkwo) and the other lone freshman (Zayden High), is it possible we’re not talking enough about Seth Trimble and what he’ll bring to the table?
Many people never get to experience the inside of a college basketball practice. What’s it really like? What kind of drills do you run…and how do they help? Is it competitive? Do you keep stats?
AJ and Jacob talk the vibe around the program this week after the win over SC, Tez Walker, Kamari Morales’ comments, Mack Brown’s newly-set record, and MORE before previewing No. 17 UNC’s home-opener against App State!

The 2023-24 UNC Basketball Roster Preview series continues, moving to the grad transfers. We’ve already tackled the incoming freshmen (Elliot Cadeau and Zayden High), the two returning sophomores (Seth Trimble and Jalen Washington), plus the two juniors (Stanford transfer Harrison Ingram and West Virginia transfer James Okonkwo), the lone scholarship senior (RJ Davis) and the grad transfers (Jae’lyn Withers & Paxson Wojcik). Today we tackle our second intraconference transfer (and another grad student) – Notre Dame’s Cormac Ryan.
Finally healthy, #UNC Basketball’s Jalen Washington seeks a bigger role in his sophomore season in Chapel Hill. In this clip from the Inside Carolina ‘Coast to Coast’ podcast, Sherrell McMillan defines success for the Tar Heel big man in year two.
Check out more episodes of ‘Coast to Coast,’ where Sherrell McMillan, Sean Moran, and Joey Powell break down the latest news around Carolina basketball, on the Inside Carolina YouTube channel.
