North Carolina travels to Syracuse looking for a season sweep of the Orange. The first meeting of the season was a dominant performance by the Tar Heels. The Syracuse Orange fought for a huge 86-79 win over the No. 7 North Carolina Tar Heels in front of a great crowd at the JMA Wireless Dome. Judah Mintz and JJ Starling played exceptionally well, seemingly taking turns hitting big shots for the Orange in the 2nd half. Mintz scored 16 of his 25 points in the 2nd half and Starling scored 13 of his 23 points after the break. As a team, the Orange shot 63% from the floor in the win. RJ Davis led the Heels with 19 points and Armando Bacot recorded his 80th career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

North Carolina went down to Miami and got a critical ACC road win on Saturday, hanging on for dear life at the very end. Elliot Cadeau set a career high, scoring 19 points, while making his first two threes of 2024. RJ Davis scored 25 points, but more critically shut down Nijel Pack in the second half. In fact UNC’s second-half defense in totality helped secure the victory. How can Carolina close better before halftime and at the end of the game? How can UNC find more bench production, particularly when Seth Trimble is out of the game?

Duke trailed by as many as 14 late in the third quarter but came back to defeat the Tar Heels 68-60 in overtime. It is Duke’s first regular season win over North Carolina since 2020. Taina Mair’s three-pointer with 55 seconds left in overtime was the dagger for Duke. Mair finished the game the 13 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Delaney Thomas scored 19 points off the bench and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Blue Devils. For North Carolina, Deja Kelly had 20 points and five rebounds. Reniya Kelly added 13 points.
