North Carolina’s head coach speaks to the media as the team prepares to travel to Raleigh Wednesday to face NC State in a rivalry game.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. ­ Notre Dame vs North Carolina

Sophomore Indya Nivar came off the bench for a team-high 16 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, and graduate student Lexi Donarski added 13 in playing all 40 minutes to lead the UNC women’s basketball team to a 61-57 win at No. 16 Notre Dame on Sunday.

The victory at Purcell Pavilion, which improved Carolina to 3-0 in ACC play, was the Tar Heels’ first ever in South Bend. It was also the team’s second victory in a row over a ranked team, following Thursday’s homecourt win over No. 25 Syracuse.

Playing in South Bent, the North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the host #16 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 61-57. The North Carolina defense held Notre Dame scoreless for 3:40 of the final 3:41 to hold on to the lead. Indya Nivar came off the bench to lead UNC in scoring with 16 points. Nivar also had five rebounds and five steals. Lexi Donarski added 13 points and 6 rebounds. For Notre Dame, Hannah Hidalgo had 17 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and four steals. In her first game back from injury, Sonia Citron scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
