GAME PREVIEW: UNC vs. Lehigh, GAME PREVIEW (AGAIN!): UNC vs. Duke; Koa Peat & Caleb Wilson visit

It’s a loaded weekend in Chapel Hill with all sorts of action ongoing. UNC Basketball takes to the court for the second time this season where they will face Lehigh. It should be a field day for Armando Bacot inside, but it will require playing complementary basketball with RJ Davis, Elliot Cadeau, Harrison Ingram and the whole team. On paper, this is the 2nd-worst team Carolina will play, so it’s an opportunity to prove that the Tar Heels are elite.

Is UNC's depth for real? | 5 double-digit scorers? | 55% AST ratio? | 95 double-doubles for Bacot?

North Carolina has not utilized much depth in the Hubert Davis era (360th in the nation in 2022-23 per KenPom). Is this the year that Coach Davis has the depth he can rely on to back up Armando Bacot, RJ Davis, Cormac Ryan, Harrison Ingram, and (so far) Paxson Wojcik? Will we see close to double-digit minutes for Elliot Cadeau, Jalen Washington, Zayden High, Jae’lyn Withers, and Seth Trimble? Is it possible that five Tar Heels could average double-digit points for the first time since 2017-18? As Carolina shares the ball more capably will we see the assist ratio raise up to 55% for the season? Is it possible that Armando Bacot finishes his career with 95 double-doubles?

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina opened the 2023-24 season Wednesday night with an exclamation point, beating Gardner-Webb 102-49 in a women’s basketball matchup at Carmichael Arena.

Six players hit double figures for the No. 16 Tar Heels, who are back in action on Sunday with another home game against an in-state opponent, hosting Davidson at 6 p.m.

“You could see that there’s a lot to be excited about here and I’m glad to finally be able to share it,” UNC coach Courtney Banghart said afterward, discussing her fifth squad at UNC, which includes seven returners and eight newcomers. “This is a group that has depth and pieces and stars, and the new pieces have been great, the returners have gotten better.”
