North Carolina, with an extremely limited Armando Bacot, didn’t have enough to get past Virginia in the ACC Tournament Quarterfinal round and consequently UNC is likely headed for the NIT. RJ Davis continued his hot shooting, but it wasn’t enough. The Tar Heels fought admirably, closing to within a possession or two on multiple occasions, but they could never re-gain a lead. North Carolina will become the first-ever AP Preseason No. 1 team to miss the NCAA Tournament since it expanded to 64 teams back in 1985. Up next, the Tar Heels will wait to hear their postseason fate, which will most likely be the NIT.

North Carolina vs. Virginia: The second-seeded Cavaliers advance to the ACC Tournament Semifinals after defeating the seventh-seeded Tar Heels, 68-59. UNC cut the lead to two with 1:59 left in the game, but Virginia then went on a 11-0 run and finished the game on a 13-4 run. Jayden Gardner scored a team high 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Reece Beekman had 15 points, five assists, five steals, and three rebounds. Armaan Franklin added 14 points. North Carolina’s RJ Davis scored a game-high 24 points, hitting 4-8 three-pointers, and had four rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
