North Carolina At Chapel Hill

North Carolina picked up their first true road win of the season thanks in large part to Armando Bacot’s ealier-than-expected return to the lineup and a career day (offensively and defensively) from D’Marco Dunn. Bacot recorded a first half double-double and is now one away from tying Billy Cunningham for the UNC career record. Bacot is also two or three games away from breaking Tyler Hansbrough’s career UNC rebounding record.

RJ Davis continues his recent strong shooting – having now made 50% of this threes (17-34) in the past six games, propelling him to a career high 36.8% from deep this season. Caleb Love didn’t shoot well, but had five (5!) steals against Louisville.

NC State vs. North Carolina: The 22nd-ranked Tar Heels won their Top 25 matchup against #11 NC State, 56-47. UNC ended the game on a 17-8 run before NC State tacked on a final basket with four seconds left. Neither team shot over 30% for the game, but the Tar Heels made nine three-pointers compared to just five for the Wolfpack. Kennedy Todd-Williams led North Carolina with 15 points, four rebounds, two steals, two blocks, and an assist. Alyssa Ustby had a career-high 18 rebounds, to go with eight points, four assists, and two steals. For NC State, Jakia Brown-Turner scored a team-high 14 points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out three assists. Camille Hobby had 13 points and six rebounds.

No. 22 North Carolina won a tough game against No. 11 NC State at home, 56-47. It was a defensive battle the whole way, as the Wolfpack shot just 29% from the floor, and the Tar Heels just 30%. For Carolina, Kennedy Todd-Williams’ effort was critical. She scored 15 points, had 4 rebounds, an assist, two blocks, and two steals. Alyssa Ustby had 9 points, a career-high 18 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. For NC State, Jakia Brown-Turner’s 14 points led the team. Camille Hobby added 13 points and 6 rebounds.

No. 13 Virginia increased its home winning streak to 8 against North Carolina with a 65-58 win at John Paul Jones. Ben Vander Plas put up a game-high 17 points off the bench for the Cavaliers while adding 8 rebounds. Reece Beekman added 13 points and 5 assists, and Armaan Franklin had 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Armando Bacot suffered an apparent ankle injury just more than a minute into the game for the Tar Heels, and freshman Jalen Washington stepped into his biggest role of the season, posting a season-high 13 points in the loss. Caleb Love hit some clutch shots to keep it close late and finished with 13 points, and RJ Davis led the scoring for the Heels with 16.
