Link Academy (Branson, MO) played Chicago St Rita at 2023 Bass Pro Tournament of Champions in Missouri. Carmelo Anthony sat courtside as future UNC Tarheels from the Class of 2024 Elliot Cadeau (Link) and big James Brown (St Rita) faced off.
Tons of high major talents on the court including Morez Johnson Jr (Illinois), Aaron Rowe, BJ Davis, Melvin Bell, Ja’Kobe Walter (Baylor), Corey Chest (LSU), Jakolb Cole (Oklahoma), Cade Phillips (Tenn) and Cameron Carr (Tenn)!

The No. 22 Tar Heels used a strong fourth quarter to come back for the road victory against Virginia, 70-59. Kennedy Todd-Williams and Deja Kelly handled the bulk of the scoring for North Carolina, as they each put up 21 points. Todd-Williams had 6 rebounds, and Kelly added 4 boards and 3 assists. Taylor Valladay got the Hoos off to a great start, scoring 12 of her 16 points before halftime. Sam Brunelle helped Valladay from there, scoring 6 of her 15 points right after the break to help the Cavaliers build a lead that the Heels would erase in the final period.

North Carolina looks to get back to their winning ways as they travel to Louisville this weekend to take on the woeful Cardinals, who have two wins to their name. Questions marks surround the availability of UNC’s front court – Will Armando Bacot and/or Pete Nance be able to play? If not, Hubert Davis will rely heavily on his back court to carry the load – RJ Davis, Caleb Love, and Seth Trimble. He’ll also need the veteran leadership of Leaky Black and Puff Johnson’s intangibles, not to mention another strong performance from freshman Jalen Washington.

The Kentucky Wildcats aren’t currently experiencing the level of success that is expected and typical in Lexington. Despite bringing back the reigning National Player of the Year, Oscar Tshiebwe, and other returning players along with high level freshmen like Cason Wallace, things aren’t up to par for Coach Calipari. The thing is that things haven’t been up to par for a couple years now. Are we to the point where we have a legitimate conversation about replacing Coach Cal and the massive buyout that would accompany such a decision?

North Carolina vs. Virginia: The No. 22 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels outlasted the Virginia Cavaliers, 70-59 in a hard-fought, physical battle in Charlottesville. Deja Kelly and Kennedy Todd-Williams each scored a game-high 21 points in the win as the Tar Heels came back from an 11-point deficit. Taylor Valladay got the Hoos off to a great start, scoring 12 of her 16 points before halftime. Sam Brunelle helped Valladay from there, scoring 6 of her 15 points right after the break to help the Cavaliers build a lead.

North Carolina lost ACC Preseason Player of the Year Armando Bacot to an ankle injury less than two minutes into Tuesday night’s game at Virginia, where the Tar Heels have now lost eight in a row. With fellow starting front court player Pete Nance already sidelined, and despite a valiant effort from RJ Davis, Caleb Love, Leaky Black, Jalen Washington, Seth Trimble and others, Hubert Davis’ team could not get their first true road win of the season.

North Carolina’s basketball recruiting class for 2024 is growing rapidly. Hubert Davis has already landed Elliot Cadeau, James Brown, and Drake Powell. Last weekend, class of 2024 SG Ian Jackson was in Chapel Hill for a visit, and by all accounts it was a great weekend. Jackson currently ranks No. 2 nationally in the class (per 247Sports) and is a highly coveted recruit from the Bronx.

Jackson’s other visits include Arkansas (this week), Kentucky (fall of 2022), LSU (fall of 2022), and Oregon (fall of 2022). Per Jason Jordan, Jackson’s recruitment is not likely to come to an end anytime soon.
