Reblogged 1 year ago from www.youtube.comFormer North Carolina basketball player and Tar Heel Sports Network analyst Eric Montross died on Sunday after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, his family announced on Monday morning. He was 52 years old.
“Carolina Athletics, the Tar Heel basketball family and the entire University community are profoundly saddened and stunned by the loss of Eric Montross, one of our most beloved former student-athletes, at far too young an age,” Carolina Athletics said in a statement. “Eric was a great player and accomplished student, but the impacts he made on our community went way beyond the basketball court. He was a man of faith, a tremendous father, husband and son, and one of the most recognizable ambassadors of the University and Chapel Hill.”
UNC’s former basketball star and NBA player, Eric Montross, has passed away at the age of 52 after battling cancer. Steve Kirschner, North Carolina’s Senior Associate Athletic Director for Communications, joined Adam Gold to reflect on Montross’s legacy at North Carolina. Reblogged 1 year ago from www.youtube.comNorth Carolina nearly got a big time resume-building victory over Kentucky on Saturday in the CBS Sports Classic in Atlanta, but fell just short. RJ Davis did his best to get his team over the hump by notching his 5th straight game with 26+ points. Cormac Ryan also did his part, having the breakout we’ve been waiting on. The Tar Heels held Reed Sheppard and Antonio Reeves relatively in check, but Kentucky’s balanced scoring won the day.
Armando Bacot had a quiet day, and Carolina will need more from him going forward if they want to notch big victories in games of this nature.

Reblogged 1 year ago from www.youtube.comNo. 9 North Carolina only led for 16 seconds all game long, but the Tar Heels still nearly found a way to steal the win from No. 14 Kentucky on Saturday night. Instead, impressive poise by the Wildcats’ freshmen allowed Kentucky to escape Atlanta with a massive, resume-building 87-83 victory over UNC in the CBS Sports Classic.
Behind four players in double-figures, Kentucky led from nearly start to finish. UK only shot 42 percent from the field compared to 47 percent from North Carolina, but 12 more offensive rebounds for the ‘Cats played a significant role in the outcome. Rob Dillingham fueled Kentucky with 17 points while DJ Wagner chipped in 14 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Two more freshmen, Reed Sheppard and Aaron Bradshaw, added 11 and 12 points, respectively.
