Following Simeon Wilcher’s de-commitment, the Heels are back to having three available scholarships for 2023-24. One possibility is adding more frontcourt depth, specifically in the form a big-bodied center who could step in if/when Armando Bacot is taking a break, out with foul trouble, or (hopefully not) injured. A candidate is UCLA transfer Mac Etienne. Etienne played a back-up role for the Bruins and projects to be the type of player willing to do so again. Earlier this week, incoming North Carolina freshman Simeon Wilcher announced that he is requesting a release from his National Letter of Intent to the Tar Heels. The question becomes, what is UNC missing in Wilcher’s absence? What was he going to uniquely bring to the 2023-24 team that no one else would have? The frontcourt now has five scholarship players – RJ Davis, Seth Trimble, Cormac Ryan, Paxson Wojcik, and Elliot Cadeau.

Following Wilcher’s de-commitment, the Heels are back to having three available scholarships. Isaac Schade and Pac Kilby work to answer the question: Should North Carolina stand pat with the 10 scholarship players they have or utilize one or more of their remaining scholarships?
