Simeon Wilcher ASKS OUT OF NLI! | What does it mean for UNC? | Scholarship update | What's next?

The news broke on Tuesday that Simeon Wilcher has formally requested a release from his National Letter of Intent to play for North Carolina this upcoming basketball season. While the timing was surprising, the reality of this request is not all that shocking. With Elliot Cadeau’s addition to the 2023-24 lineup, the opportunity for Wilcher to get a high volume of reps as the main ball handler didn’t project to be in the cards.

Following Wilcher’s de-commitment, North Carolina currently has 10 scholarship players, with three available scholarship players. The backcourt quintet are RJ Davis, Elliot Cadeau, Seth Trimble, Cormac Ryan, and Paxson Wojcik. The other five are Armando Bacot, Jalen Washington, Harrison Ingram, Zayden High, and Jae’lyn Withers.

UNC TRANSFER TARGET?: Kentucky's Antonio Reeves (if he transfers!) | Mailbag: Isn't the portal shut?

Kentucky’s Antonio Reeves would be an intriguing transfer target for North Carolina to look at, if he ultimately decides to go somewhere else as a grad transfer. Reeves pulled out of the NBA Draft on deadline day and the rumors of him transferring away from Kentucky have been swirling. IF Reeves transfers, he would bring high-level shooting from deep and an ability to space the floor for Bacot to operate inside and the other guards to drive.

A listener wants to know: Isn’t the transfer portal closed? Host Isaac Schade answers and provides context for the transfer portal as a whole.
