In a press conference last week, Coach Hubert Davis was asked about his plans for depth and rotation in the 2022-23 season. Would he go with a similar “Iron Five” approach with RJ Davis, Caleb Love, Leaky Black, Armando Bacot, and (presumable) Pete Nance with a bit of Puff Johnson and Dontrez Styles sprinkled in? Or would he employ a deeper rotation including D’Marco Dunn, Justin McKoy, and the four incoming freshmen – Seth Trimble, Jalen Washington, Tyler Nickel, and Will Shaver?

NBA Draft night came and went for Brady Manek without hearing his name called. After everything he showed in Chapel Hill last year alongside Caleb Love, RJ Davis, Armando Bacot, and Leaky Black, it seems that at least one NBA franchise would take a shot on him. Coach Hubert Davis said earlier in the week that Manek will be in the NBA next season. So now we wait to see what transpires in terms of a two-way contract and/or a Summer League Invite.

The North Carolina Tar Heels and Gonzaga Bulldogs are both stacked heading into the 2022-23 season. Just about every preseason top-25 list has the two teams 1-2 in some order. For UNC, Hubert Davis brings back four of his five starters (RJ Davis, Caleb Love, Leaky Black, and Armando Bacot), while losing an integral piece in Brady Manek. Additionally, Carolina has just landed Northwestern transfer Pete Nance, who should slot into the staring lineup in Manek’s spot. The Tar Heels have some other strong returning players in Puff Johnson, Dontrez Styles, D’Marco Dunn and bring in a four-person freshman class of Tyler Nickel, Will Shaver, Seth Trimble, and Jalen Washington.
